The Kuchars
George and Mike Kuchar are preternatural fraternal twins who have been making oddly amazing motion pictures for over 50 years. Their work has consistently defied the film industry’s staid standards of aesthetics, plot, acting, direction, production, and when it’s appropriate to show a 65-year-old’s beaver. Throughout the past five decades, they have produced boundless collaborative and independent bodies of work that are weirder—and in many cases more entertaining— than just about anything you’ve ever watched. If the world was a fair place, the Kuchars would always be mentioned in the same breath as filmmakers like Andy Warhol, Kenneth Anger, and John Waters. For now, you’ll just have to enjoy this short documentary about the brothers making the VICE-funded Room 666 at the San Francisco Art Institute.
