The top U.S. diplomat for African affairs, Johnnie Carson, says he regrets the violence that followed Nigeria’s presidential elections and is urging Nigerian authorities to do whatever they can to ensure Tuesday’s gubernatorial vote is free and fair. Carson made the comment in an exclusive interview with VOA's Mariama Diallo. Carson also discussed economic recovery in Ivory Coast and some of the challenges following the South Sudan referendum vote.
