Digital Tipping Point: b-roll, robotics conference, children and robots 01 (2005)
This is one of many short video segments which will be added to the Digital Tipping Point (DTP) archive. This segment features footage from the RoboNexus conference 2005 in Santa Clara, California. In particular, this segment includes scenes of children (boys) playing with or admiring robots. In one scene, and Asian boy of about 7 years stands admiring the remarkable Kawada hrp2 humanoid robot, which appears to be just slightly taller than him, while leaning up against his dad. It’s a sweet moment. In another shot, a blond Caucasian boy, also about 7, plays with an iRobot Roomba brand robotic vacuum cleaner. The hrp2 runs on GNU Linux; but this particular Roomba does not run on Free Open Source Software, although subsequent versions of a similar robot do run on GNU Linux. We shot the Roombas because there was no footage available for their Free Open Source Software cousins at the time of this filming.
