What Can I Use OCR For?
You can use OCR in a number of settings - say you want to quote a paragraph of text from a book - you can screen capture the image from Google books, or use a camera or a scanner to retrieve the image and save it as a JPEG. You can then use OCR Terminal to convert JPEG to Word online. Transcript: Optical Character Recognition or OCR is the process of extracting text, in reality characters, from images. OCR makes it easy for you to edit a document when all you have is an image. Let me give you an example using Google Books. And as you can see, these images are searchable but not editable. Should you find anything relevant for your research, you will have to manually type out everything. Imagine all the hassle involved in typing out a few pages! What you can do is to take a screen capture of the page and Paste it in Paint. Remove all the irrelevant information and Save the file in the format of .jpeg, .png or .tiff. Tip: View the webpage in full screen before taking the screen capture. OCR Terminal converts your scanned images and also pdf files making them editable and searchable in a variety of formats .doc, .txt, .rtf. As you can see, the font size, two-column page layout, figures, tables, headers and footers are all preserved during the process. The screen capture method is particularly useful if you are without a scanner or unable to download the documents. Similarly, you can also use your camera to capture a photo of a page in a book. Log in to OCRTerminal and download the results. Visit [ for a free trial account. "The demonstration using Google books was for illustrative purposes Only.
