On Wednesday the UN called for restraint. But at the same time it acknowledged the patch of trees that sparked the clashes was on the Israeli side of the border. Proof, Israel says, that the Lebanese attack was unjustified. The clashes were the worst violence on the border since the 2006 war between Israel and Hezbollah. The Shiite militant group wasn’t involved in Tuesday's violence, but its leader Hassan Nasrallah said his fighters would react if the Lebanese military was attacked.
