British Sky Broadcasting’s directors rejected a £7.8bn takeover proposal from News Corporation, demanding another £1bn from Rupert Murdoch for his media conglomerate to take full control of the satellite broadcaster.  Ben Fenton, chief media correspondent, analyses the hurdles News Corp faces both from the independent members of the BSkyB board and the regulators, and how News Corp is attempting to reduce reliance on advertising revenues.
