Call of Story 02 - An Enjoyable Conversation
Storytelling in families is the golden thread that binds generations and siblings into a thickly woven tapestry. Each time a child tells a parent a story and a parent listens, or a father tells his daughter a personal tale, a single thread is sewn between the two. Soon a comfortable, stable familial environment is created as a result of intertwining story-sharing. What may have otherwise been a chaotic, disjointed atmosphere almost magically is changed into an open world of empathy and mutual understanding--like straw spun into golden thread. Stories and storytelling lie at the heart of human experience. Since the beginnings of humankind, we have shared through stories the events, beliefs, and values that make us who we are and form our families, communities, and cultures. The most important stories may be those we share with family and friends, but all help preserve memory, explain our present, and imagine our future. Sewn across time, story-threads bind individuals to families and families to society, defining our collective values, beliefs, goals and traditions. "The Call of Story" features six nationally know storytellers, telling six original and extraordinary stories that arise directly from their own life experience. In between stories they explore the nature of story and its role in making us human. "The Call of Story" is a production of KBYU Television in association with Osric Productions, funding was provided by the Ashton Family Foundation.
