Tesiorna DAVAO CITY — Mayor Sara Duterte will take a five-day leave effective Thursday next week to allow the investigation of the Department of Interior and Local Government over the mauling incident last Friday involving the mayor and a court sheriff. In a press conference Saturday afternoon, Mayor Duterte said her leave will be from July 7 until 11. She said this is so that she would not be accused of influencing the investigation over the incident. Duterte said she was also advised by her lawyers to refrain from granting further interviews to the media regarding Friday’s incident as these may be used by the complainant in the case. Thus, Duterte said her statement to any of the queries would be "it was an unfortunate incident, that was not my best moment". Duterte said she was also requested by her husband, Mans Carpio, to refrain from making any statement against Judge Emmanuel Carpio who is the uncle of Duterte's husband. Mayor Duterte said Friday's incident was her first involvement in a brawl. She also denied she had punched anyone in the past. Vice Mayor Rodrigo Duterte said on Friday that he will not make any comment regarding the mauling of court sheriff Abe Andres by the mayor as she does not want to be the next punching bag. "In fairness, wala pa nako nasumbagan akong papa noh (I had never hit my father before)," Mayor Duterte said. Asked if her father had already talked to her after the incident, Mayor Duterte said she does not talk to her father about work. "But he knows that I know what I'm doing and that I'll stand by to what I have done," Mayor Duterte said. The mayor however revealed that her mother simply asked her "naunsa naman ka (what's happening to you)"?
