Lagoon worries: Turtle-nesting beach faces threat
The Rushikulya beach, the safest nesting grounds for Olive Ridley sea turtles in Orissa faces a serious natural threat. The formation of a lagoon on the beach threatens to eat away huge areas of nesting grounds on the beach. In 2005, some 90,000 turtles had come to nest at the beach. This year only 45 thousand have arrived for mass nesting.
