Is There a Future for Social Security?
Established as a social insurance program in 1935, Social Security provides old-age, survivors, and disability insurance protection to most salaried and self employed workers. Today, baby boomers and those nearing retirement, worry about its future and whether the system they’ve supported for years will be there to support them. Will it be necessary to cut benefits or raise taxes to keep Social Security solvent? Should the system be privatized? Is reform really necessary? From the Series:Capitol Region Roundtable
