Gustav Metzger: Artist’s Talk
In the face of information overload - for example on the internet - and a range of difficult dilemmas, Metzger questions whether Intellectuals should propagate key values rather than seeking over-arching world views.05.02.2003 Gustav Metzger is best-known as the initiator of Auto-Destructive Art: he participated in the first "Fluxus" event at the ICA in 1962. This illustrated talk coincides with 100,000 Newspapers: A Public-Active Installation, his first solo London show since 1996. A searing critic of capitalist societies, Metzger is now concerned with themes of extinction and other threats to nature and supports the idea of a moritorium in the field of bio-technology. In the face of information overload - for example on the internet - and a range of difficult dilemmas, he questions whether Intellectuals should propagate key values rather than seeking over-arching world views. The discussion was chaired by Sarah Wilson.
