Devashard at First Light - Shazap.com
This is the first issue of a unique endeavor by Fluid Friction comics which brings together comic creators from all over the world to create an in house creation team stationed in Hong Kong. This is the first of a 12 issue graphic novel and involves a very detailed and intricate world by the name of Bhumi. After reading this book I did have to go back and reread a few things to get the world straight but I did enjoy it. At fluidfriction.com they have a little history about the world and a map so that you can get acquainted with the new world. There is plenty of action in this story as well as espionage and politics and a very intriguing story. The assassin characters are really cool and really creepy. The action, while good, is not very fluid, it is a bit more picturesque. It gives the impression that you are looking at still shots of the action rather than the action itself. They used a really cool effect to show the lightning by going black and white in the panels where it flashed, that I thought was really cool. The art is great and captures the tone of the book but you get the feel that there is a lot that goes on between each panel. When you get into this book, be prepared to really reach into your imagination to help create the world in which it takes place. It is very complex and contains a great deal of history. This issue basically gets us caught up to the present time by showing us what got the characters to where they are before the great war began. For more info on Fluid Friction and how the book was made you can look at our interview with Fluid Friction team member Spencer Douglass ( the San Diego Comicon.
