Dogedin Mural
The Dunedin downtown landscape has went to the dogs- per se. On the side of Skips Bar and Grill you will find an unusual mural- mainly of dogs and cats. These are real pictures of pets, some have passed away and others are still alive. The owner of Skip’s Bar and Grill commissioned Anna Hamilton the artist to paint the wall, and they decided to do different something different. ; Soon the Dunedin Doggie Rescue came on board and it was decided that a portion of the proceeds would go to them. The Dunedin Doggie Rescue saves dogs on their last days from rural kill shelters. They then fully vet the dogs by updating their shots and giving all needed medical treatment. They socialize the dogs and then find permanent homes for them in Dunedin and surrounding areas. The mural was started May 10, 2010 and in little over a month in the sun and rain of Florida Hamilton painted 150 dogs on the wall with a waiting list of 75 more. WIth no formal publicity but only word of mouth and people driving by, the response to the wall as been enormous. The price to have your pet featured range from $25 for a pet in the background, to $200 for a life size picture in the foreground. So far the wall has raised over $2000 to go the doggie rescue.
