Nuclear Power Plants: After a Shutdown
Even if a nuclear reactor is switched off, it can take decades before the threat of harmful radiation recedes. Shutting down a reactor requires costly specialized technology. After German reunification, the former East German nuclear power plant in the town of Greifswald was taken off the grid.
