Sweden: Hunting Down Wolves
Hunting wolves was banned in Sweden for 45 years, but now it’s being allowed again and the country has come down with a case of hunting fever. Twenty-seven of the animals were fair game — around 10 percent of the wolf population.Twelve thousand hunters applied for licenses, although just 2000 were issued. Within days, all the wolves had been killed. But the hunters came in for much criticism as a quarter of the wolves weren't killed cleanly and were left to wander around badly injured. Animal rights activists are demanding tougher rules, like the ones which regulate the bear and elk (moose) hunts.
