Technology Sector Update: March 11, 2011
Tech heavyweights are down in pre-market action, hit by broad market weakness in the wake of a major earthquake and tsunami in Japan. Apple, Inc. (AAPL) is falling fractionally, ahead of an updated version of its iPad tablet computer to be available in stores this afternoon. On-line sales are already available. The new iPad model reportedly comes with several improvements over the original version but the same price tag — $499 to $829. 3D Systems Corp. (TDSC) is down 4%, after announcing the pricing of a public offering of 2,040,000 shares of its common stock at a price to the public of $44.00 per share. Of these shares, 1,300,000 shares are being sold by the company and 740,000 shares are being sold by certain selling stockholders. Oracle Corp. (ORCL) is declining fractionally, after being reportedly initiated with an Outperform at BMO Capital. Price target is $42.
