Denise Savoie
Beyond Politics NDP MP and assistant deputy speaker Denise Savoie was born in Saint Boniface, Man. The last of nine children, Denise’s father worked for 25 years with Canadian National Railways.  A teacher by profession, Denise attended the Université de Grenoble in France for her master of education degree. After several years in Victoria, where Denise taught at Royal Roads Military College, she became involved in her community and was elected to city council. In 2006, Denise ran for the NDP in the riding of Victoria , formerly held by Liberal cabinet minister David Anderson. Divorced, the mother of three and grandmother of five loves the outdoors where she bikes, hikes and kayaks. She talks to Catherine Clark about her life Beyond Politics.
