BACKPACKING IN MUNICH
Munich is the cultural center and capital of Germany’s largest state, Bavaria. Many of the images and stereotypes that outsiders have about Germany, like people clad in lederhosen and castles that tower off hills in the snowy Alps, come from Bavaria. Tourists flock to Bavaria more than any other part of Germany, and locals are proud of the region, considering themselves Bavarians first and Germans second. And Munich is the center of it all... a sprawling city with a liberal attitude that features great museums, beautiful parks, giant architecture, and a love for free flowing beer. Currency in Munich is the Euro, so make sure you bring plenty of cash, because the exchange rate is not in favor of the U.S. dollar these days. Traveling to and within Munich is easy... the city's main train station is the hub of all of Southern Germany, with direct connections to Berlin, Frankfurt, Hamburg and other major German and European cities. Getting around the city is a snap with Munich's terrific public transportation infrastructure, as MW runs buses, trains, and subways to get around. Biking is a great way to get around town, and if you only have one day in Munich, Mike's Bike Tour is one of the best ways to see a lot in a short amount of time. Hitchhiking is also common throughout Munich, but make sure you don't try to hitch a ride on the high speed Autobahn... you will get slapped with a fine. Those are the basic facts and info you need to know when getting around Munich...now where I'm sure you're wondering where to get one of their famous beers.
