France: German passports for German war children
The children of German soldiers, born to French mothers during World War Two have had a hard time in French society, often facing insults and humiliation.More than 200,000 people in France are the offspring of Wehrmacht soldiers and it is only now that their plight has been officially recognized. More than six decades on, they are being granted German citizenship - for many of them the end of a long and painful journey to understand their heritage and identity.
