Patricia Sullivan is Associate Professor of History and African-American Studies at the University of South Carolina and a fellow at the W.E.B. Du Bois Institute at Harvard University.  She is author of "Days of Hope: Race and Democracy in the New Deal Era" and co-editor of "Civil Rights in the United States."
