Today marks a special day for one convenience store chain, and they are not skimping on the celebration.Today, July 11th, also known as 7-Eleven day, is the date that the popular 7-Eleven mart opened its doors 83 years ago in Dallas, Texas. According to the company’s press release, participating stores are handing out 5 million free Slurpees nationwide in celebration of their birthday.Not only do they have free Slurpees but there are many in-store promotions including discounts on soft drinks, food, and a special birthday donut.The company is also kicking off their second annual Slurpee Battle of the Bands contest where customers and fans around the world can vote on their favorite bands during virtual concerts at Slurpee.com.Stefanie Olson, 7-Eleven category manager for Slurpee and Big Gulp® beverages commented on the celebration, "7-Eleven Day has become so popular that people mark it as a recurring event on their calendars. Some people forget that it's July 11th or 7-Eleven Day. They just know it as free Slurpee day. It's a great way to create a party atmosphere at our stores. Everyone wants to celebrate!"Even though 7-11 does give out free Slurpees today, typically July, the hottest month in the U.S., is the top-selling Slurpee month of the year.
