France: Relocated Against Their Will
After hurricane Xynthia caused widespread devastation on the Atlantic Coast, the French government now intends to tear down houses and resettle their residents. But the home owners have already announced their intention to fight the plans.At the end of February, hurricane Xynthia tore through Europe. For France, it was the most devastating storm for over 10 years and caused the deaths of 53 people. Now, the worst-affected areas on the Atlantic Coast are to be returned to Mother Nature. The residents are angry at these plans and feel cheated. Recently, they learnt that the area should not have been settled in the first place but lucrative property prices persuaded local politicians to approve building applications.
