October 8, 2010 - Case #33558
Supreme Court Hearings George William Allen v. Her Majesty the Queen - October 8, 2010Case #33558George Allen was convicted of first degree murder for the 2004 death of Garry McGrath. McGrath had rented part of Allen’s land near Edmonton for a firewood business, but he failed to pay $24,000 in rent. McGarth disappeared in 2004 and his body was discovered buried on Allen's property in 2005. Allen does not deny killing McGrath, but claims that it was in self-defence. At issue is whether Allen's conduct after McGrath's death indicates that he had planned to kill McGrath. His conduct included abandoning McGrath's truck in the parking lot of the West Edmonton Mall, cleaning the scene of the crime and suing McGrath and his wife for unpaid rent and damages.
