Paramount Theatre, Saint Cloud
When World War I came to an end, Americans were ready to head back to the movie theatre. In 1920, a group of local businesspeople decided to cash in on the trend and laid plans for a grand new theatre in downtown Saint Cloud. The leading investor, architect Leo Schaefer, designed the building. In the 1990s, faced with the loss of their beloved movie palace, preservationists stepped in to save and restore the building, with help from community organizations and local government. Today, it is once again the “Pride of the Granite City.”
