Rick Mercer
Beyond Politics Rick Mercer He is known as Canada’s premier political satirist. Born in St. John's, Newfoundland, he first gained national prominence with his one-man show Show Me The Button. I'll Push It or Charles Lynch Must Die. In the mid-90's his he began an 8 year career with the CBC's hit comedy This Hour Has 22 Minutes where his Talking to Americans segment became an instant hit. In 2001, he left the show to star and produce another comedy program Made in Canada and in 2003, he launched The Monday Report. After only one year, the CBC moved the show to Tuesday nights, and Rick subsequently renamed it The Rick Mercer Report. Over the last 7 years, Prime Ministers Steven Harper and Paul Martin have appeared on the show, as well as Elizabeth May of the Green Party, Jack Layton of the NDP, Newfoundland Premier Danny Williams and Conrad Black. Rick Mercer talks to Catherine Clark about his life beyond political satire on this special edition of Beyond Politics.
