Leon Kossoff Recent Paintings at MITCHELL INNES & NASH
James Kalm is tardy, and slips into this opening just moments before it closes. As a confirmed painter, with a predilection towards pigment, your reporter is always pleased to share some of the best examples of this art form that appear in the New York galleries. This exhibition is the first of recent works by Kossoff seen in the city since 2000. Each piece is a testament to long hours and consistent overworking that have gained Kossoff his immense reputation. His subjects in this exhibition are a pathetically braced up cherry tree in his back yard, a local chapel, and a few friends who he’s painted over decades.
