Sparky Anderson Dies At 76
George ""Sparky"" Anderson, a born storyteller known for being the first manager to lead teams from both the American and National Leagues to World Series titles, passed Thursday at the age of 76.Anderson managed professional baseball for 26 years, coaching the first 9 for the Cincinnati Reds and rest for the Detroit Tigers.He retired in the 1995 season with 2,194 wins (vs. 1,834 losses), which ranked him as the third all-time behind Connie Mack and John McGraw.
