Russian Sports Daily - Matt Kerby and Elena Malakhova During the three weeks we were discussing hockey and I think we forgot to mention one tournament that took place in Moscow last weekend. I’m speaking about one of the most beautiful sports — artistic gymnastics. As I have already mentioned Moscow to be more exact sport complex "Olympiyskiy" hosted a huge international competition in artistic gymnastics. And this competition was artistic gymnastics world cup of 2011 which had a remarkable name of "the stars of the world". More than 200 sportsmen from 33 countries came to the capital of Russia to participate in the 6th Gymnastics World Cup. And I'm very pleased to say that the performance of the Russian national team was beyond praise. Our gymnasts managed to collect three gold medals, five silver and one bronze. I think it's necessary to mention that this year the international gymnastics federation (FIG) has changed the format of holding the world cups. Now 12 sportsmen are taking part in qualification round but only four of them (not six) can make it into the final. FIG representatives think this new rule adds more excitement and intensity of emotions to the tournaments. That's why all the spectators that came to Olympiyskiy to support their national team were able to see only four athletes on each apparatus.
