2010 was a transformative year for the U.S. effort in Afghanistan. Thirty thousand additional US troops and thousands more civilians flowed into the country to implement President Barack Obama’s strategy for winning the now nine-year-old war. The current commander of US and NATO troops in Afghanistan, General David Petraeus, commanding 98,000 U.S. troops and 48,000 from other coalition countries, says progress is being made in the war against the Taliban and other militants.  VOA Pentagon Correspondent Al Pessin reports on the main developments of 2010 and what to expect in 2011.
