美國政府宣布，將就核問題進一步制裁伊朗，更多機構及個人因為協助伊朗發展核子設施，會被列入制裁名單之內。 聯合國安理會上星期通過制裁伊朗，措施包括重型軍備禁運；國際社會加強截查進出伊朗的船隻及貨機，調查是否載有違禁品等。 這是2006年以來，安理會通過第4份制裁伊朗的決議，美國總統奧巴馬形容，措施是歷來最嚴厲的。
