American Judaism has developed new varieties of spiritual expression, including feminist ritual and liturgy, Jewish mysticism (kabbalah), retreat centers teaching Jewish meditation, and dialogues among Jews, Buddhists, and Jewish Buddhists. All of these have influenced the Jewish Renewal Movement, whose founders endeavored to create an American reformulation of Jewish spirituality, drawing from sources such as Kabbalah, Hasidism, Jewish feminism, and the havurah movement, as well as Eastern influences, the ecological movement, and the self-actualization movement.
