if you plan on heading out to a lobo football or basketball game this upcoming season... you will be allowed to drink alcohol--- as long as you’re 21 or older and have a certain ticket. sharon erickson is live at the pit with more on this controversial decision that's been months in the making. antoinette... if you're planning to take in some hoops here at the pit, or some action on the grid-iron, you can now enjoy the game with a beer. but the university says the decision doesn't mean you should expect a crowd full of drunk fans. it's been an eight-month battle with the city, but yesterday... the daily lobo sa the "new mexico regulation and licensing department" granted the university a liquor license. in november... city council members denied a waiver request... based on a law that bans the sale of alcohol within 300-feet of a school. but in april, an arbitrator overturned that decision-- saying the city was being inconsistent-- because alcohol is served at isotopes park across the street. alcohol will still be restricted in the school venues-- it will only be served in suites and club level areas. the athletics department said it will help law enforcement make sure fans aren't overserved ... and don't drive intoxicated
