Oliver Bell, head of emerging markets and Middle East specialist at Pictet Asset Management, on ways to invest in the Middle East. He says Dubai’s success taught other Middle Eastern nations it was possible to build cities in the sand although its subsequent financial crisis also showed investors the risks. He recommends financials with exposure to infrastructure projects in Saudi Arabia and Qatar, in particular. He said there were still many risks associated with investing in the region, but added that it was possible to invest in Iraq growth, for example, by investing in one of its Egypt-based suppliers.
