Campaign Politics Ajax-Pickering Ajax-Pickering is a bedroom community east of Toronto, home to many new immigrants and a disproportionate number of young families. Liberal incumbent Mark Holland is running for the fourth time, confident his promise to create local jobs and boost small businesses will resonate with the masses of commuters. Conservative star candidate Chris Alexander, formerly Canada’s ambassador to Afghanistan is expected to run a tight race. He’s been unofficially campaigning since his nomination 18 months ago. The NDP’s Jim Koppens and the Green Party’s Mike Harilaid are campaigning to stop federal land slated for an airport.  CPAC’s Karen Soloman caught up with the candidates as they launched their campaigns.
