World Music: Techung, "Karma Tatsoak"
-Buy the album(Tibet/USA) Techung is a Tibetan singer/songwriter/performer living in the San Francisco Bay Area. He grew up in the exiled Tibetan community of Dharamsala, India, where he attended the Institute of Performing Arts. We first encountered this soulful multi-instrumentalist and singer at the Sharq Taronalari Festival in Samarkand, from whence this performance comes. He has since gone on to perform with a full band, and to open concerts for the Dalai Lama and various Tibet related benefits. "Karma Tatsoak" is a folk song from Eastern Tibet likening the starry sky to a community of souls, with one great star (Karchen) shining the brightest, representing the Teacher. Techung here plays the Piwang, a stringed instrument related to the Chinese Erhu.
