Williams to Split Itself Up
The latest in a spate of public company spin-offs and separations, Williams (WMB) said late yesterday its board of directors has determined to separate the companys businesses into two stand-alone, publicly traded corporations.  Williams will separate its exploration and production business via an initial public offering in the third quarter of up to 20% of its interest, and in 2012, a tax-free spin-off to Williams shareholders of its remaining interest.
