ACT TWO Scene 16 In the palace hall of Tsar Lazar, Jug Bogdan and his sons bid farewell to mother Jugovic and their only sister. All leave the hall except the youngest son Bosko and his little sister. Bosko holds the sky-blue flag, on which an icon of the risen Christ has been painted, firmly in his hand. SISTER YUGOVIC: Dear brother, please be so kind, And do not leave poor me/ Alone with our mother, without not even one brother. I begged everyone of our brothers for mercy/ And to stay behind with me and mama. Butnot one wanted to listen to me/ You, Bosko, are my last hope BOSKO JUGOVIC: Dear sister, our only one/ I love you more than myself. I would have given everything in this world, To make all your dreams come true. But you are asking me something I cannot do. Dear sister, my faithful, WHO ELSE THEN WILL CARRY THE FLAG OF ELIJAH/ If you were to hide myself today. Heaven will cry in horror, And it will even make the tsar fail in sorrow. There is no gem, Even in the realm where ELIYAH reigns, To whom I would be able to entrust THE FLAG OF GOD. I WOULD RATHER GIVE AWAY MY YOUNG LIVE/ THAN THE FLAG Bosko bends over towards his sister and kisses her on the cheek.
