Smithsonian reenacts 1st Civil War spy balloon
On June 11, the National Air & Space Museum partially inflated a balloon similar to the one Thaddeus Lowe used in 1861 to demonstrate to Abraham Lincoln how balloons could be used for reconnaissance and espionage during the Civil War.
