On the formerly bare, cinder-block wall of an office building on Vermont St., a bright rectangle of blue bursts with the words "connects to ything." The saying, which would read "Everything connects to everything else" if it were fully painted, sprawls over a checkered rainbow, lit by a beaming, sun-like brain in the mural's upper corner. When teacher Tim Holtzclaw chose this Leonardo da Vinci quote for Century School's now-controversial and half-completed mural, he underestimated its truth. The mural's message encapsulates the simplest and most important lesson Holtzclaw and his students learned: Everything does connect with everything.
