The United Nations is appealing to the international community to come to the aid of the people of Somalia. U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees Antonio Guterres says the Horn of Africa country faces an assortment of crises, and calls the country’s two decades of war a catastrophe that is "as urgent as ever." The U.N. says more than 12,000 people have fled the capital, Mogadishu, since the beginning of October, and has called for 530 million dollars for humanitarian aid projects in 2011.
