History Cast 013 - Life of a Civil War Soldier
Schenectady County Historical Society Curator Ryan Mahoney speaks with Matt George of the Capital District Civil War Round Table. Ryan and Matt discuss the 134th New York, the Army Regiment from Schenectady and Schoharie Counties (NY) that saw fighting at Gettysburg during the Civil War. ; They also discuss the mystery surrounding one of three young men from Schenectady who lost their lives at Gettysburg.  Matt George will be presenting his program, "Life of a Civil War Soldier", at the SCHS on Saturday, April 9 at 2:15pm. Matt will be presenting a two part program. In Part One he will be dressed in character as Private George of the 134th New York and discuss his experiences in the war. Although there was no actual Private George, every event, individual, and location discussed is historically accurate. In Part Two, Matt comes out of character and explains the nature of the weapon that he uses, the uniform, camp life, medicine and many other aspects of a soldier’s life. Objects will also be passed around for the audience to touch.
