In the first of a series of events exploring the legacies of Surrealism, Czech-Canadian artist Jana Sterbak talks about her work and screens excerpts from her videos Declaration, Dissolution and From Here to There.19.04.2004 In the first of a series of events exploring the legacies of Surrealism, Czech-Canadian artist Jana Sterbak talks about her work and screens excerpts from her videos Declaration, Dissolution and From Here to There.Sterbak had her international breakthrough in 1987 with her work Vanitas: Flesh Dress for an Albino Anorexic - a dress made from 20 kilos of salted beef steaks stitched together and draped on wire frame. Since then her work has explored themes of power, control, technology and sexuality often with a uniquely absurdist black humour. She has exhibited at major venues in Europe and North America and represented Canada at the 2003 Venice Biennale.In collaboration with the AHRB Research Centre for Studies of Surrealism and its Legacies.
