The Netherlands: How well will the extreme right do?
The right-wing populist Geert Wilders is campaigning on an anti-immigration platform in upcoming elections in the Netherlands. Other parties are hoping the economy will be the main issue, not Geert Wilders.Geert Wilders and his Freedom Party could be a force to be reckoned with. Wilders argues that immigration is also an economic issue, noting that the Netherlands spend more than 7 billion euros a year on immigration. Many Dutch voters appear to agree. A growing number of people say they are concerned about the role of immigrants in Dutch society and about Islamic radicalization. That is partly due to the liberal immigration policies that the Netherlands have long defended.
