Tecmo President Resigns
Tecmo President Resigns A lot goes on behind the scenes at video game companies, including quite a lot of politics as well. Tecmo president Yoshimi Yasuda resigned earlier this week in August under the pressure of multiple lawsuits. Tecmo is best known to us gamers as the company that has brought us the Ninja Gaiden and Dead or Alive franchises. Yasuda, claiming personal reasons for his resignation, has recently been under the pressure of a number of legal issues, disgruntled employees, and a whole lot of unpaid cash. First up? The resignation of Tomonobu Itagaki, the head of Team Ninja, the development team .pretty much. responsible for Tecmo’s success. Itagaki quickly followed with a 145 million yen lawsuit against Yasuda for "unpaid completion bonuses". President Yasuda allegedly encouraged him to file this lawsuit, saying "If you are dissatisfied with the decision not to pay the bonuses, either quit the company or sue it." BUT! Alas Yasuda never saw the folly in his directions, because Itagaki both quit the company, AND he sued it. And to top it off, two more employees have come forward to represent over 300 other Tecmo workers to sue the company for over 8.4 million yen lawsuit in unpaid overtime. Whoopsies. Yasuma will be replaced by the Tecmo Chairman of the Board Yasuharu Kakihara in September. As for the fate of our beloved Dead or Alive girls? Only time will tell.
