Choosing a Winter Camp
In this program, the Corps of Discovery arrived in present-day St. Louis and set about establishing their first winter camp. One might think that any time they wanted, Lewis and Clark could simply have halted the expedition and said “Let’s camp here,” but more factors than fatigue impacted their decision.
