Taliban Fighters Killed in Failed Attack on Afghan Air Base
(Al Jazeera English News Headlines: June 30, 2010) At least six Taliban fighters were killed when they tried to storm a NATO air base in Jalalabad, Afghanistan. An Afghan political analyst told Al Jazeera that the new U.S. commander, Gen. David Petraeus, would not make a difference for the Taliban, who would continue their attacks. The charity Save the Children says that Palestinian children in the poorest parts of the West Bank are suffering from hunger even worse than children in the blockaded Gaza Strip. Nepal’s prime minister, Madhav Kumar Nepal, has announced his resignation. And in the Philippines, Benigno Aquino has been sworn in as leader, promising to fight poverty and corruption.
