Scrums Government House Leader John Baird and Steven Fletcher, the Minister of State for Democratic Reform, spoke to reporters about the Conservatives’ bill to limit senators’ terms to eight years. Baird was also asked about Defence Minister Peter MacKay’s comments on the damaged relationship between Canada and the United Arab Emirates. Liberal National Defence critic Dominic LeBlanc discussed MacKay’s comments and the Senate term-limit bill. NDP Leader Jack Layton also responded to questions about the Conservatives’ Senate bill. Conservative MP Steven Blaney and Bloc Québécois leader Gilles Duceppe discussed the possibility of Bloc MP Serge Ménard testifying at the House of Commons Ethics committee on his allegations of illegal campaign donations.  Liberal MPs Ruby Dhalla and Alexandra Mendes questioned government advertising on objectionable websites.
