Slídil je remakem stejnojmenného filmu z roku 1972, který byl ověnčen čtyřmi nominacemi na Oscara a v němž si též zahrál sám Michael Caine. Tentokrát se ve filmu vrací v roli opačné, v roli milionářského autora detektivních románů, který si měří schopnosti s nezaměstnaným hercem (Jude Law) ve smrtelně vážné a vážně zamotané hře s hrozivými důsledky.
