Talking and spelling
Little Bitty recently got a Leapster2 game for his 4th birthday, and it has some spelling games on it. He loves it, and decided to recreate the game using magnet letters on the fridge. Of course he started with one of his favorite words - the name of his favorite train. That would be "Thomas" of course. It was the first word he ever spelled, a few months ago. Some kids with autism have echolalia, where they repeat words or phrases they hear. Sometimes it is a stepping stone to more interactive speech. Bitty has picked up some new phrases from his game, such as "Wes sou da wuhd out" (let’s sound the word out), "Wha cuh nest?" (what comes next), and "preh da A buh" (press the A button). Some of his new phrases are more useful in conversation than others... My favorite part of the video is when he says "oh YEAH!" after he finishes spelling "Thomas" and sounding it out, lol :)
