"State of Catastrophe" in Chile Following Earthquake
(Al Jazeera English News Headlines: February 28, 2010) Chilean president Michelle Bachelet has declared a "state of catastrophe" in central Chile following Saturday’s magnitude-8.8 earthquake. The earthquake has killed at least 700 people, and Chileans are living in fear of aftershocks. In Haiti, suffering continues after January's devastating earthquake, made worse by heavy rains. A mountainous border crossing between Russia and Georgia is due to reopen after four years of closure. Also, the leader of the Basque separatist group ETA, Ibon Gogeascoechea, has been arrested in France.
